All About “Handsome Ransom”

After months and months of waiting, the all-time best selling Marcia Lynn McClure romance, The Visions of Ransom Lake is finally back in print and available to readers!  With a fresh “text-lift,” “Handsome Ransom” is ready, once again, to fulfill the dreams of the “Vaden Valmont” in us all.

“There are some changes to the book,” Marcia says.  Not with the plot or anything like that…it’s just a smoother read.  I found some dialect inconsistencies when I read “Ransom” several months ago and I’ve corrected those as well as a few other things which seemed to scream at me (see excerpts below).  All in all, it’s exactly the same story, just a bit…um…prettier to read!

The print set up is different in this edition as well.  Many readers have requested a bolder, slightly larger print, and this edition offers that.  I also like to refer to this edition as ‘flexible’—and I mean that literally!  The laminate cover stock and perfect bound white paper, make the book literally more flexible for the reader.

As for the cover, tons of “Handsome Ransom” fans wrote in requesting we use the same cover art, and we did stay with it as best we could.  Being that this edition is a second edition with limited marketing, however, the exorbitant costs of a matte finished, foil-embossed covers made it impossible for Distractions Ink to meet the expenses of the producing exact same cover as the first edition.  We did, however, take a graphics model of the original cover art and implement it—so fear not—Mr. Wimber’s pumpkin patch lives on!  All in all, though the book does display some actual printed product changes, “Handsome Ransom,” is as dreamy as he ever was!

It’s always intrigued me—why The Visions of Ransom Lake is one of the reader favorites.  Friends offer me a few explanations—the one I hear most often is, “Because, of all your heroines, Vaden is the most like you!”  Vaden is so much like me and maybe this is the reason my friends love the story so much.  Still, maybe everybody is like me and just loves a story with pumpkins in it!  Maybe Ransom really is the handsomest hero I’ve ever written!  Who knows!  All I know is I’m glad the story is available to friends again!  I’ve missed it!”

Something about The Visions of Ransom Lake seems to thoroughly capture our hearts!  Whether it’s Vaden’s antics, Ransom’s kisses, or Vaden and Ransom’s romance as a whole, The Visions of Ransom Lake remains one of Marcia Lynn McClure fans all-time-favorites and we’re elated to make it available to readers again!

New and Old Text Snippets

Here’s an example of the type of text changes Marcia made while “text-lifting” The Visions of Ransom Lake.  You’ll notice in this instance (especially if you know Vaden) the changes are very subtle, simply adding to the feel and flow of the story.

Original Text:

"But, Vonnie…just look at this land!  At the space!  Gaze on the beauty of that horizon!” Vaden exclaimed as she marveled at the large, fluffy clouds drifting across the bluest of blue sky. “It’s like…like our spirits can breathe out here!  And when we get to Aunt Myra’s and Uncle Dan’s little town…well they’re sure to have quaint little county fairs and pumpkin patches and enormous red barns and town socials and cowboys and…" Vaden rambled as she gazed dreamily out the stagecoach window.

"And gunmen and bank robbers, and wells instead of pumps and plumbing, and bedbugs and horse manure in the middle of the street," Yvonne added with a prominent tone of sarcasm.
